Local State of Emergency Declared due to Winter Storm

February 10, 2010

Updated February 11, 2010

A local and county state of emergency remains in effect until 12 noon today. Borough Offices Open at 10AM.

A local and county state of emergency remains in effect until 12 noon today. However, the Borough of Magnolia Offices will open at 10:00AM today and close at 4PM. The Magnolia Community Center open gym hours are cancelled for this evening.

The Public Works Department, as it has for the past 36 hours, continues its snow removal operations.  The borough would still like to encourage residents to not park on local and county roadways when possible to assist in getting the roads clear. DPW crews have done a tireless job in trying to keep our streets clear.

Also, it is asked that if you are physically able, please try to clear snow from fire hydrants near your home.  This provides ready access in case the need arises for fire company use.  Our dedicated volunteer fire company members appreaciate your support.

Accumulation of ice may weigh down power lines and trees, and as a result cause power lines to come down.  Downed wires may appear dead but should always be considered “live.”  STAY AWAY FROM ALL DOWNED LINES.  Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything that it might be in contact with.  Parents are urged to check for downed wires in areas where their children might play and to remind the children to stay far away from any wires.  If a wire falls on a vehicle, passengers should stay in the vehicle until help arrives. To report a downed wire, call 1-800-436-PSEG and tell PSE&G the nearest cross street.  If you need immeadiate emergency assistance call 9-1-1.

Continued information and updates will be made available on the county website:  www.camdencounty.com, the state website:  www.state.nj.us, as well as the Borough Website:  www.magnolia-nj.org.
