Magnolia Faces Reduction of State Aid in Proposed NJ Budget 03/19/2010
For Immediate Release
Contact: Councilman Steve Whalen, Director of Finance & Administration
In a stubborn attempt to correct a thirty-year old problem, the proposed budget by Governor Christie will reduce State Aid to Magnolia by more than $400,000 this year. This amount represents a 15.95% reduction ($86,594.00) for our Borough Aid and 9.99% ($316,443) for School Aid. These “draconian cuts” will have adverse affects on all towns across our state. Mayor Cowling-Carson and council members are fighting this irresponsible proposal. We strongly suggest that you voice your concerns to the Governor’s office, Congressman’s office, and our 5th District Senator’s and Assemblymen’s offices; otherwise Mr. Christie’s proposal may become law and impact local property taxes or force cuts in services.
